"'What makes a women truly stylish?'Just as we are unique, so is our individual take on style. We chose three women to comment on their sense of style. The chosen three to answer the question are women who have a strong sense of style that is very much their own. They are women involved in very different aspects of the fashion industry, being image consulting, boutique designer re-sale and accessories retail.
All three have a personal style that is very different from each other, and also different from my own. Accordingly, each has a fabulously different take on the question, What makes a woman truly stylish?.
Christine Johnston-Kernot - LabelsFor Christine women who are truly stylish really know themselves. And they have a confidence that enables them to wear their clothes well. Women with style know that it's not always about where or who it is from, but how it's worn. She says 'from the villages of the third world to Paris high society - there will always be that someone that can wear anything and look amazing...'
For many stylish women, it is an innate sense of rightness about a look and Christine credits the right genetics as being important - at least in part. My Mom and Dad have that certain something'. But she is quick to acknowledge that may aspects of style can be learned and acquired with a little effort and time. 'I do believe that style can be taught - we are influenced by our friendships, and we learn from each other', she says. Knowledge, practice and effort can create a style that stands out.
Judy Crowe - Image ConsultantJudy's take on style encompasses the wholeness of a woman, and the way she chooses to present herself. Knowledge, like an understanding of basic principles of colour, line, body proportions and scale can help a stylish woman to make the most of her body assets while accepting and embracing challenges. Judy also acknowledges the importance of dressing for one-self,'dressing just for yourself and not for anyone else no matter how near or dear they are to us. It is an attitude and an expression of one's true spirit. Judy believes that while it has a huge visual element, stylish women often embrace a subtle kinetic expression such as the flick of hair, the sway of hips, the stride of a step or a flicker of a smile. This contributes to a woman's attractiveness that is esoteric. She recognises that all of this has to be underpinned by 'a belief that you are worthwhile, worth knowing and worth looking at. It is a confidence that you are like a work of art'. Judy believes that the truly stylish woman consciously or unconsciously knows that she gives pleasure and joy to those who look and interact with her. In total, a stylish woman has that ‘wow' factor reflected in compliments, smiles, admiring glances, and spontaneous conversations.
Jo Menary - Shine
To Jo, women who are truly stylish know how to dress their figures and have a really acute sense of how to show off their assets. They have a special knack of hiding their bad bits, so that we are not aware of them. It is this ability that really sets them apart. This knowledge also means that they don't succumb to fashion unless it really suits them. Their sense of style sits in the driving seat. A great character and plenty of personality also accompany the stylish woman. Jo knows that a stylish women dresses to please herself, and in a way that expresses who she is. She recognizes the importance of a strong character as being an essential ingredient, 'and fabulous accessories, of course'. "
